The Office for General Education is seeking applications for new Scholars. The General Education Faculty Scholars build the capacity of faculty to use educational change initiatives to advance greater intentionality in curricular and course design, learning outcomes and assessment, and high-impact teaching and learning practices in general education. General Education Faculty Scholars represent the various campuses, colleges, and General Education areas at Penn State. Scholars are compensated with supplemental pay and typically will serve three-year terms.
The program started ten years ago as the General Education Faculty Fellows and is now an application-based process. For this application cycle we are looking for new General Education Faculty Scholars to represent various parts of the University. We are recruiting faculty members from University Park representing the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Health and Wellness, Natural Sciences, and Quantification domains of General Education and faculty members from Capital College (Harrisburg), Abington College, Berks College, and University College. Applications (PDF or Word versions) are due by May 15, 2025, and requires a letter of support from your academic administrator.
The General Education Faculty Scholars program is open to full-time faculty members who routinely teach General Education courses. Selection to participate will be based on: demonstrated commitment to excellence in General Education including adoption or development of innovative pedagogy and course design; demonstrated appreciation for General Education as a cornerstone of academic success and commitment to providing access and service to students across the Commonwealth; an ability to provide a unique contribution to General Education at Penn State; and the interest and ability to act as a campus and University leader in this area.
Current Scholars projects include: Civic Engagement Collaborative, professional development for Integrative Thinking and teaching across disciplines, General Education Assessment, prior learning in Integrative Thinking.
